One of the many dachas (country or holiday houses) that were built for Stalin across the Soviet Union, this one was used when he visited the mineral springs dotted across the town.
Long abandoned after the end of the Soviet Union, the house is decaying and falling apart, with most of the upstairs flooring having collapsed into the lower areas.
A fountain that was erected during construction was removed before Stain arrived for his first visit as it was pointed out that the dictator was not a fan of any noise. We wondered what he would think of the many stray, barking dogs that greet you at the front gate.
It is not possible to drive up to the house unless by motorbike but it is an easy walk up. There were no guards or anybody about – I guess the Georgians really have little interest in the ex-Soviet follies.
