A Celebration of Death.

Death is part of life, and the journey to the land of the dead is very important in Ghana.

Funerals in Ghana are a celebration of life and the Ashanti region in the east of the country is famous for spectacular funerals which are more important than weddings or Christmas with preparations lasting many months.

@firecracker_collective photographer @leeannolwage documented the funeral of the late Opanin Owusu for @spiegelmagazin. Owusu, who was 105 years old, was celebrated in style by hundreds of family members and friends.
