Bathhouse Number 8

The first bathhouses in Tskaltubo are believed to have opened in 1870, with the sanatoriums following in 1925.

In 1931 Tskaltubo was designated as a balneotherapy therapy centre and spa resort by the Soviet government and was one of Stalin’s favourite vacation spots, with one of his dacha perched high on a hill above the town. His private bath within one of the other bathhouses within the central park can still be visited for a small donation to the caretaker.

Bathhouse Number 8 is a communal bathhouse that was presumably more for workers than the Soviet party hierarchy. It is completely abandoned and decaying but some of the original murals can still be seen on the dividing walls, although many have had a visit from local graffiti artists.
